Here is a list of the events taking place in April. All events not listing what city they are taking place in are in SoCal locations. If you are holding or know of an event taking place in Southern California (or elsewhere but of significant impact to SoCal wrestler-girls) that is not listed here or in the Calendar page, please let us know via the Contact Us form so that I can correct the oversight if it fits the criteria.

2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships Results for Schoolgirls and Juniors

Yesterday, Sunday, April 14, the second day of competition concluded at the 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships, taking place at Selland Arena in Fresno. The results for the schoolgirl and junior age-groups follow.

Out of 13 possible weight classes, only seven were represented (after 79 pounds was combined with the 85-pound weight class and 92 pounds was combined with the 97-pound weight class) with a total of twenty wrestlers competing. 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships Results for Intermediate, Novices and Cadets

Yesterday, Saturday, April 13, the first day of competition concluded at the 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships, taking place at Selland Arena in Fresno. The results for the intermediate, novice and cadet age-groups follow.

Intermediate

Only two weight classes competed at this age-group for a total of six wrestlers; showing that, regardless of the sport’s impressive growth nationwide, California still has some work to do in freestyle participation at this age-group.

65 California Wrestler-Girls Place at Reno Worlds

The Reno World Girls Championships took place last weekend in Reno, Nevada. Girls competed in 4 age-group divisions: 9 & under, 12 & under, 15 & under, and 18 & under. I’m pleased to post that 65 wrestler-girls representing 43 teams placed top-4 at the tournament; 16 19 of them as champions.

It took me a while but I finally compiled a list of the California placers, as well as the top ten teams (California teams will be in blue font) for each division.

Simpson University to Add Women’s Wrestling

Simpson University in Redding, California has announced it will be adding women’s wrestling starting in the 2019-2020 season. Simpson is a private, liberal arts college affiliated with Christian and Missionary Alliance. It offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. It has a student body of just over a thousand.

The program’s inaugural head coach is Fan Zhang, who served as women’s head coach at Grays Harbor College last season. Coach Zhang is a seven-time national champion in China.

2019 NHSCA Girls Folkstyle Nationals Results in 12 California All-Americans

The 2019 Inaugural NHSCA Girls High School Folkstyle Nationals took place this past Sunday, March 31, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. With a turn out of just over 130 wrestlers, it can be considered a modest first go for this nationwide tournament. But don’t let to numbers fool you, the competition was tough; with some very good East coast wrestlers giving the California delegation a challenge at every turn.
