Before CIF sanctioned an official state championship tournament, a group of coaches with the foresight to believe in the future girls’ wrestling were organizing tournaments that allowed the girls to show-off their skills.
There weren’t enough girls participating in the sport for each section to have its own championship, but the organizers of the “Unofficial State Championships” came up with a way to allow the girls to earn a ticket to the event. They divided California into two regions, north and south (the rivalry between the two regions already existed and this division just added a new aspect).
The results for the 2007 CIF Girls Southern Regional Wrestling Tournament can be looked at here: 2007 Southern Region. If you would like to download a copy, please get it from here (if the link does not work please let me know in the comments section).
