The California Rebels Would Like to Help Your Wrestler Get to NHSCA Nationals

I am a big supporter of any group that works at growing the sport, especially in Southern California. Even though I am not associated with the organization, I am more than happy to post a message from the California Rebels. They will be traveling to Virginia Beach this year to compete at the first ever NHSCA girls folkstyle nationals and would like to help your wrestlers get there too. Their message follows:

2018 California Rebels

The California Rebels Women’s Folkstyle National Team is excited to once again participate and support California at Folkstyle National Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We have taken a National Team every year since 2011 to Oklahoma and are now excited to participate in the 1st Inaugural NFHSCA Nationals, last year they had close to 4500 Boys wrestling and have now opened the event up to Girls, we want to give more opportunities for the girls of our state to wrestle at National Level events with National Level competition. We have 5 spots left.

Some exciting changes this year are you now can represent your High School Team, wear your High School singlet no more club or USA Organization, no more USA club card, no more coaches card and still be coached by your own coach. This is the official High school Nationals and not a tournament put together and called Girls High School Nationals, Girls are now again being recognized and given same opportunity as Boys (Growth).

Guest Contributor: Che Chengsupanimit on How He Graduated Debt Free Without An Athletic Scholarship

I am pleased to announce that we have a guest contributor on our site, Che Chengsupanimt of He attended and wrestled at a Division III school. NCAA Division III schools do not offer athletic scholarships, as a result Che had to figure out how to continue his education and wrestling career without that financial support.

Now he is sharing what he learned with us. If you find the article below informative head on over to College Wrestling Recruiting to read it again or for more articles written by Che.

2018-2019 ACT & SAT Test Dates

It’s that time of year again. That time when I remind wrestler-girls that, to anyone who wants to continue their career at the collegiate level, good grades in school and good performance on the mat are important. But there is a third factor that must not be ignored: performing well on one or both of the standardized tests colleges and universities use as qualifiers for admission into their institutions can go a long way to make up for a GPA deficit

I cannot stress enough the benefits of preparing for these important tests as early as possible and to actually take them multiple times. However, tournament schedules can sometimes conflict with testing dates; that is why I have added a test date page to the site which I will update every year. Hopefully, it will help coaches, athletes and parents plan out their competition and testing schedules.

WCWA Schools Majors Database Added

In order to help wrestler-girls and their families with the college selection process. has added a new feature: the WCWA Schools Majors Database. The idea is actually a product of a question made in the SoCalWrestlerGirl Facebook group which, though a closed group, anyone is welcome to join (come to learn and/or educate others).

The database is provided as a guide for anyone interested in attending a WCWA member school. It is not intended as a replacement for visiting a school’s website, speaking to an academic adviser, or reading the course catalog.

There are a few things I would like to mention about the database:

  1. I have included all schools that have WCWA programs or that have announced starting programs. I recommend you check the colleges with women’s wrestling programs page to ensure that the programs will be active by the time you start your college career before committing yourself to any specific program.
  2. This is a considerable undertaking and updating the list will be challenging. I promise to do my best to maintain it. I thank you in advance for your understanding if I do fall behind and the list becomes a little outdated.
  3. Use the search box below to filter the results to match your area of interest. For best results enter only one word, as multiple words may filter out results that might actually be relevant.
  4. Doctorate degrees, certification programs, and minors are not listed.
  5. Degrees are listed at their most general level, concentrations are not listed. For example, if you are looking for Music Education; you will find Music and Education but not the combination. This does not mean that no school offers Music Education but simply that you will actually have to visit the schools’ sites to look further into that very specific degree. I did this to reduce the number of records in the database since majors such as Education can have a large variety of specializations.
  6. I have simplified/converted the major names to those that fall more in line with the naming conventions of the majority of the schools. Once again, you should visit the schools’ sites to look further into specific information about the interested major.
  7. If you do not see the major you are interested in, don’t despair, some schools offer individualized degrees which will allow you to design your own major. Every school calls their program something slightly different but I have labeled it Individualized.
  8. If you come across mistakes, of any kind, please feel free to let me by way of the Contact Us Form.

So, go ahead and click on the link at the beginning of the post to go to the database and if you like it please share it with others that might find a use for it. If there are any other features you would like to see on this site please feel free to let me know!

CMU Camp

Normally, I only post events that:

  1. SoCal wrestlergirls can get to easily
  2. have direct repercussions on the athletes’ future competitive opportunities

But, when someone outside of California reaches out to me saying they would really like to see California wrestlers attend their event, I tend to make an exception. Especially when that someone is SoCal native coach, Travis Mercado who has recently been named head coach at Colorado Mesa University.

So, if you are able to get out to Colorado for a few days, you can take advantage of the opportunity to learn from an accomplished collegiate women’s wrestling coach. And, maybe learn something about the campus that could be a potential home for you after high school.

For more information visit our event page for the camp.
