CIF Girls’ Wrestling

Updated 9/24/2018: Brackets will increase from 25-woman to 32-woman per the most recent CIF Blue Pages.

On this page, you will find information on all things dealing with girls’ wrestling as part of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), governing body that oversees and regulates wrestling for girls at the high school level.

Automatic Entries (State Championships)

There are 10 sections in CIF but only 7 participate in the state championships. Currently, each section is allowed the following entries per weight to the state championships tournament.

Section Entries
Central 4
Central Coast 4
Los Angeles City 3
North Coast 4
Sac-Joaquin 6
San Diego 3
Southern 8

Qualifying (State Championships)

Teams/Individuals must compete and qualify through their respective CIF Section Championships to participate in the CIF State Championships.

If you’re interested in the Southern Section rankings  (official and otherwise) you can visit this site throughout the season and find them posted as soon as they are made available. To the best of my knowledge, Los Angeles City Section and San Diego Section do not publish or publicize their rankings (they may not even keep any).

If you are interested in the state rankings, this site will also post those as soon as they become available.

CIF uses NFHS Association rules for all wrestling competitions: if you would like to purchase a copy of the rules book you can do so directly from the NFHS site or get the kindle edition from Amazon. If you would like a simple overview of the rules you can view them here.
