Rumor has it Head Coverings are a Thing of the Past… not so Fast

The NFHS, the organization that oversees the wrestling rules CIF uses, has released its rule changes for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Below you will find the changes. Removed language will be crossed out. Added language will be in red.

Augsburg University to Add Women’s Wrestling

Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota has announced it will be adding women’s wrestling starting in the 2019-2020 season. Augsburg is a private, liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It offers over 50 undergraduate and nine graduate degrees. It has a student body of nearly 3,600.

The Auggies’s inaugural head coach is Max Mejia, who he has served for three years as Women’s and Developmental Coach at the Sunkist Kids Regional Training Center in Tempe, Arizona.

2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships Results for Schoolgirls and Juniors

Yesterday, Sunday, April 14, the second day of competition concluded at the 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships, taking place at Selland Arena in Fresno. The results for the schoolgirl and junior age-groups follow.

Out of 13 possible weight classes, only seven were represented (after 79 pounds was combined with the 85-pound weight class and 92 pounds was combined with the 97-pound weight class) with a total of twenty wrestlers competing. 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships Results for Intermediate, Novices and Cadets

Yesterday, Saturday, April 13, the first day of competition concluded at the 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships, taking place at Selland Arena in Fresno. The results for the intermediate, novice and cadet age-groups follow.

Intermediate

Only two weight classes competed at this age-group for a total of six wrestlers; showing that, regardless of the sport’s impressive growth nationwide, California still has some work to do in freestyle participation at this age-group.

65 California Wrestler-Girls Place at Reno Worlds

The Reno World Girls Championships took place last weekend in Reno, Nevada. Girls competed in 4 age-group divisions: 9 & under, 12 & under, 15 & under, and 18 & under. I’m pleased to post that 65 wrestler-girls representing 43 teams placed top-4 at the tournament; 16 19 of them as champions.

It took me a while but I finally compiled a list of the California placers, as well as the top ten teams (California teams will be in blue font) for each division.
