2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships Results for Schoolgirls and Juniors

Yesterday, Sunday, April 14, the second day of competition concluded at the 2019 CA-USA Wrestling Girls Freestyle State Championships, taking place at Selland Arena in Fresno. The results for the schoolgirl and junior age-groups follow.


Out of 13 possible weight classes, only seven were represented (after 79 pounds was combined with the 85-pound weight class and 92 pounds was combined with the 97-pound weight class) with a total of twenty wrestlers competing. California Wins the 2019 Junior Folkstyle Team Title with 25 New All-Americans

The 2019 USA Wrestling/US Marine Corps Girls Folkstyle National Tournament is currently taking place at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Yesterday, Saturday, March 24th, the Junior division was completed after one day of competition.

Team California came in first place, in the team title race, with 727 points. Team Texas came in 2nd with 673.5 and Michigan finished in third with 157.5 points. The top ten teams follow:

2019 CAUSA Cadet-JR Girls Folkstyle State Results

I’m a little late in posting this, but what else is new? It’s nice to see wrestlers continue their season beyond CIF. 104 wrestlers registered for the Cadet Girls division, a 17% percent drop from last year (126). In the Junior Girls division, 158 wrestlers registered versus 157 last year for a negligible increase. This is a concerning development and I can’t help but wonder if the way the California National Team is being chosen, well in advance of the state tournament, is affecting the turnout.

Congratulations Team California 2018 Fargo Junior Team Champions

In the junior version of the Fargo Freestyle National Championships, like in the cadet edition, 28 states fielded teams. Team California, once again, bested the rest of the teams with a total of 75 team points. This time around it was not New York that took second place but Washington with 62 team points.

In individual results, Team California duplicated their All-American count, from the cadet tournament, with 19 placers out of 66 wrestlers, including one champion and two finalists.

Congratulations 2018 CA-USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle State Placers

Today, Sunday, April 22nd, 148 wrestlers competed for the right to call themselves junior freestyle state champions and a spot on Team California. As members of the national team, those wrestlers who accept to represent California will travel to Fargo, North Dakota and compete in the US Marines Cadet/Junior National Championships, taking place July 13th through July 18th, where they will have an opportunity to become a USA Wrestling national cadet/junior freestyle champion and/or all-American.
