WCWA will grow to 50 programs for the 2019-2020 season

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has announced that it will add women’s wrestling as a varsity sport during the 2019-2020 season. The school is a public university granting associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees, as well as doctoral degrees in audiology. The 400 acre campus has a staff of 544 and its student body is made up of 9,643 coeds. In athletics, UWSP is an NCAA Division III school.

Delaware Valley and Alderson Broaddus Universities to Add Women’s Wrestling

Delaware Valley University

Delaware Valley University, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, has announced the addition of women’s wrestling as a varsity sport starting in the 2019-2020 season. The school is a private university offering 25 undergraduate majors, six master’s programs, and a doctoral program. The student body is made up of 1,700 full-time undergraduate students In athletics, DelVal is a NCAA Div. III school.

Big Bend Community College to Add Women’s Program

WCWA will grow to 48 programs

Big Bend Community College, in Moses Lake, Washington, will be adding women’s wrestling starting in the 2018-2019 season. The school is a two-year community college that offers 43 associate degrees and 16 certificate programs. The population is made up of around 5,400 students. In athletics, Big Bend is an NWAC school.

The Plan

The Vikings have begun the search for a head coach. The college hopes to recruit roughly 30 athletes this summer and eventually carry 25-30 wrestlers on the roster.

Message from Fontbonne University Head Coach, Amond Prater

Last week I posted that Fontbonne University, in St. Louis, Missouri, was starting a women’s wrestling program and had hired a head coach. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any other information on the program.

Three New Programs Coming to the WCWA

Okay, I’m not going to complain, I’m just behind on posting so much great (and not so great) wrestling news! But, you read that right three new programs are coming to the WCWA! That will mean that by the beginning of the 2019 season (and barring the dropping of any existing programs) the WCWA would be made up of at least 47 teams competing!
